trouble with inserting a wav file into an audacity file

Hi,
I have an audacity file open that I narrated and recorded myself with audacity. I want to insert a wav file that is, I think, computer generated. I have several files a company sent me that is the audio that is used for the blind at street light intersections. There is "chirping", "cuckoo" and sentences "wait to cross the street", etc. When I insert these into my audacity file, the sounds play back too fast and the rest of the audacity file is played back at the right speed.
HELP!

Help! I strung together a 1:05:35 timeline and now I want to create 23 separate tracks for playback!

I have 23 short vignettes that I want to press onto a CD. How do I create 23 separate tracks for playback without starting all over?
THANK YOU!

I am new to Audacity

I am following the "preferences" set-up steps but I cannot see under "Audio I/O" more than 2 options:
Microsof sound mapper-input
SoundMaxdigitalaudio
and the same thing under recording.
Which one I choose??
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me

I'd be willing to bet that there is no USB output from your tape player - if you have a cable that will plug into both the tape player AND the laptop, I'd like to see it. I've seen a mic with a USB output plug on it, and plugging that into the lap...
