Audacity Users Group

Just started using Audacity -- awesome !
I have a fairly big project --- transferring music on audio tapes to CDs.Ideally I hope to get CDs which give user control to access any audio track on the CD rather than have one large recording for each side of an audio tape and have to search around !

I have discovered the multiple save feature which gives separate tracks (and auto naming -- track 1, track2, etc) which is going to help a lot BUT to use this I first need to set up the label markers , at the points where one audio tape track moves to next one. With lots of tapes this ois is going to be time consuming .

Any one know if it can be automated ?
Thanks

None that I know of.

Track lengths are going to be different so that's why a manual l system.

Why not just record the song to computer using Microsoft's sound recorder then import file with audacity to clean them up then save them as Mp3's and select the tracks from special folder and burn the discs using Nero or some other burning software ?

I just did that with 520 Karaoke songs.

Thank you for this Dennis . I'm sure your system works well for you. However I do think it is a bit time consuming; For example you record and edit each track from the tape separately. Given the volume of work and the time I have I propose to record each side of my tapes as a separate SINGLE file which I will then edit for hiss, hum etc. --- in one shot. Possibly not as good as your method but saves a lot of time.
However the key issue for me is dividing up the larger edited file into separate tracks for burning. I'm a complete novce in using Audacity but I thought there might be a quick way of detecting where the spaces between tracks are located and insert a marker at that point and then use multiple save to provide automatic separation and naming .I would still like to know if this is possible or impossible (in which case I'll have to proceed manually) .Thanks again .

Yes, it is called "Labeling"

Labels where one song ends and the next one starts.

Then you can export multiple labels/tracks shown in the FILE Tab

Hi ,
I am new to Audactity but have managed to split a long file (cassette) is it possible to put the song name on the file instead of "audio track 1" I keep trying but the the file is not longer recognised and I can't do anything with it. Help please!
Mary.

Thanks for recent posts Dennis. I'm OK on using the label system. The problem I was trying to crack was to automate the process of finding the spaces to insert the labels. I am now reconciled to doing this manually !

Thanks again

Hi,
I just got a link to an MP3tag program that is free and seem to work well with putting on "tag" info on to your mp3 tracks. I've been exporting multiple mp3's from Audacity to a file and then I run this program. I got it from http://www.homerecordinghowto.com/. It is free to sign up for his e-letter (Very helpful info for me).
The site to download the program is at: http://www.mp3tag.de/en/download.html.
Maybe this will help solve your problem.

Thanks Mark.
I am actually working with WAV files not MP3 but maybe your suggestions will work. I'll have a look at it this weekend.
