Audacity Users Group

The quality of the sound recorded in Audacity is directly proportional to the quality of the Audacity microphones that you are using. When you compress your final sound file as an MP3 file, there will be some degradation in sound quality, so the better the sound file is before compression, the better the final file will sound. The best advice is to use the best quality microphone you can afford. We've produced adequate sound using an inexpensive USB headset microphone from Logitech.

The Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 delivers a premium audio experience.
Logitech ClearChat Comfort USB Headset

Featuring plush ear pads and a quality headband, it lets you listen to your music, games, and conversations in total comfort for hours on end. The plug-and-play USB connection and soft-touch in-line volume and mute controls deliver convenience and simplicity. The noise-canceling microphone filters out unwanted background noise for improved performance. And when you just want to use the headphones, move the boom out of the way and immerse yourself in full, rich sound from 40mm neodymium drivers.

I've used a Plantroncs DSP USB headseat similar to the one above. Works great for VoIP, but when I've used it to record voiceovers in Audacity, it sounds distant, tinny. Any ideas?
